Description: |
The Guidelines for Curricular Change Change Policy includes the following with regard to new courses:
New Core CoursesProposals for new core
courses will be submitted to the AAC (Academic Affairs Committee) according to the instructions
specified in the New Course Proposal document. All proposals should
contain input from appropriate peers in the College, and must have
approval of the department chair prior to submission. AAC review of the
proposal will include assessment of impact on each curricular area and
on curricular maps, and the overall merit of the proposal. AAC will
make a recommendation to the College faculty about action to be taken.
A final decision on the new course proposal will be made by a majority
vote of faculty. New Elective Courses The
first offering of a new elective course will be designated as a Special
Topic and be assigned a special topics course number (PHAR or HSCI 150). The department
chair and faculty member will inform the AAC about the course offering,
but AAC or faculty approval is not necessary. AAC will inform the
faculty about the new offering. If the elective course is offered
a second time, a proposal for the course must be submitted to AAC
according to the instructions specified in the New Course Proposal
guidelines. All proposals should contain input from appropriate peers
in the College, and must have approval of the department chair prior to
submission. AAC review of the proposal will include overall merit of
the proposal and overlap with other courses. AAC will make the final
decision about action to be taken. The course will then be assigned
unique course number. AAC will inform the faculty about the approved
course. A vote of the College faculty will not be required for approval
of new electives. ------------------------------- Complete this form to submit a proposal for a new course. (Note that the educational objectives for the programs may be accessed in the student handbooks or in the information about each program.) Once completed, email
